Late Season Yolo County Almond Orchard

Every February, I photograph the delicate pink blossoms of the almond orchards throughout the Sacramento Valley and is a fun little ongoing project of mine. I nearly didn’t make it out this year due to my schedule, but managed to sneak out of work a little early one evening to capture the last blossoms of the season as the trees were sprouting green leaves in anticipation of spring. https://www.optimalfocusphotography.com

I set out early in the morning to photograph my favorite mustard field at the base of the Sutter Buttes at sunrise only to find it plowed under, but taking the drone up at sunrise to capture long shadows and golden morning light saved the day! Backlit Lupine, Beek’s Bight

Once the morning sun rises above the hills overlooking Folsom Lake, the purple lupine become illuminated with a warm, golden glow. After last year’s “superbloom”, I was surprised to see yet another good year for the lupine to grow in thick, dense clumps of vibrant purple. https://www.optimalfocusphotography.com
