Horsetail Fall Firefall Phenomenon 2021
By now, everyone has seen images of the wildly popular “firefall” phenomenon in Yosemite that occurs every year in February, when the setting sun illuminates Horsetail Fall in vibrant reds and oranges so it appears like a lava flow. I actually prefer the fall before it turns red, when a golden glow contrasts nicely against the cool blue tones of El Capitan’s granite face. For just a few minutes, the sunlight peeked through a break in the clouds, and you could hear the entire Valley erupting into cheers and applause, shouts of joy echoing off of Yosemite’s massive granite walls.
