For my Father
True Story: before I was born, my dad planted a grove of redwoods in my grandparent’s back yard in Mamaroneck, New York, and they thrived! The only redwood trees I knew of in Westchester county, anyway. My father and I always had a tenuous relationship for reasons too numerous to mention, but I always appreciated his love for nature, and even though he never saw these redwoods in their native habitat, I’d ship him redwood seeds and seedlings from California every year, and I always think of him, now long gone, every time I’m in the redwood forest.
