For Beloved Alice
For our family matriarch, who we lost not long ago, this was a reverent time of year. My cousin, who is a sister to me, texted me asking to photograph the full moon in memory of her. There are many elements of this scene that evoke my aunt’s incredible personality: the calmness of the water resembles her serenity in the midst of chaos; the mist, an underlying etherealness; the moon, her spirituality; the purple hills and pink clouds, her playful spirit; the mighty oak, her remarkable resilience. We love and miss you everyday, Aunt B, and carry forward those lessons you taught us, but none more important than caring and looking out for each other.
