Boiling Springs Lake
Set in the geologically active Warner Valley, and surrounded by mudpots and fumaroles, Boiling Springs Lake is one of the biggest hot lakes anywhere in the world. The cloudy, aqua-colored water is gorgeous to look at, but very dangerous and highly acidic. Heeding the National Park Service warning signage, I was able to find some vantage points away from the unstable volcanic crust and boiling subterranean water for some compositions, including this one of pines precariously growing out of the water’s edge.
