Indian Paintbrush, Velocity Basin
At 11,000’ above sea level, vibrant wildflowers carpet the slopes of the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado during short summer seasons at high elevation. After an early morning, off-road drive on rocky terrain, and a steep hike up the mountains surrounding this circular-shaped basin, I was drawn to this small clump of pink Indian paintbrush as a foreground element with the San Juans’ colorful soil and native blue spruce trees beyond.
